Okay, back from another hiatus. We've had a busy few weeks.
Ruthie is loving school and loving life. Her interests are beginning to branch out, and this makes for a very happy mama.
It is no surprise that Ruthie.loves.princesses. As much as I can push any thing else, princesses always seem to win out. She loves any princess, but if put side by side, she will always choose a Disney one. She knew princesses existed before I even fathomed showing her such pink and glittery movies. I'm just thankful she also loves Lion King and Nemo (they are funnier, and therefore, mommy likes them. Now I just need to introduce her to Lambchop. THAT was funny.) Disney has their marketing down. I will give them credit.
You can imagine my
surprise when she finds interest in anything non-princess, let alone
dinosaurs. THANK YOU MUSEUM OF LIFE AND SCIENCE! Not only is she
liking something other than princesses*, she is LEARNING NAMES of things
apart from "Aurora" or "Cinderella." She's learning dinosaur names. I
didn't think I'd get to enjoy this without a son. I love it*.
Parasaurolophus
Albertosaurus
Other one she knows:
The "mommy dino" is the Maiasaura (it is a nesting dino and so the Maiasaurus at the museum is a mommy with eggs.)
Styracosaurus
Troodon
I am shamelessly bragging on her. I admit it. Let it be and give me this.
*I really have no ill (ish) will towards Disney, I just really don't want her to ask to decorate her room in a princess theme..but then again, dinosaurs would be no better. Who's up for getting her into Interior Decorating? Who wants to make a cartoon about that? Then we can both learn some things and really bond over it.
*I love that she is learning these things, let's not confuse this with loving dinosaurs. Ask me about my opinions on Dinosaurs, and I will give it to you, and the next 10 people I see. Jurassic Park scarred me, raptors will always be the epitome of fear in my 10 year old mind...and just because a bird is blue, let's not assume a random dinosaur is as well, okay scientists? Seriously, that is their explanation for the blue colored Troodon at the museum. Let's all admit we don't know some things about them, and call it a day. Hey, did you know that dinosaurs liked to perch on power lines? I mean, birds do, and they are related to birds, so they must as well, right? It's dinosaur science.
